South Pasadena, CA | Completed 2012
Koning Eizenberg in collaboration with Oonagh Ryan
Influenced by the family’s informal lifestyle, this 3,750sf home is conceived as a series of white plaster boxes housing large flexible spaces that can change use over time. Sliding between the boxes are a series of burnt cedar wood bars with green roofs housing storage and bathrooms. Circulation is primarily outdoors; each box connects to the large central yard as well as a more private smaller courtyard. This high performance home includes a series of passive sustainable strategies such as hydronic underfloor heating, earth tubes for cooling, solar panels providing both power and domestic hot water.
