The new Golden Guardians headquarters was designed as a home for two distinct user groups: e-sports players and creatives. A programming phase with both user groups defined project needs, functions and key adjacencies. Identifying the overwhelming tech-driven spaces of competitors, a fresh new approach was pursued here that would lead with wellbeing.

A series of interconnected “neighborhoods” encircle the perimeter, taking advantage of natural light and Ballona Creek views. These spaces connect to common open areas via “laneways” housing support spaces that require acoustic separation.

Located at the crossroads of the neighborhoods are open areas conceived as “courtyards” where everyone can come together. These flexible spaces provide areas for eating, relaxing, collaborative work, events, and tournaments.

The health of players is prioritized through strategically locating spaces to encourage walking, while the kitchen provides a visual connection to healthy food and snacks. Additional wellbeing features include an exercise area, a massage room and an outdoor courtyard with a basketball hoop.

Finishes and furnishings were selected through a hospitality lens, creating an inviting environment that results in a unique and distinctive venue when paired with the company’s branding. At the heart of the space, a state-of-the-art and flexible black-box studio is available for recording digital content, photography, VR and workshops.
